Believe it or not, our kids naturally know how to use their imagination without us giving them examples of pretend play or prompting. They’re masters at it. From playing dress up with their parent’s clothing to taking the couch apart to build a fort. Those are just a few examples of imaginative play but let me give you a few more.
- Playing dress-up with costumes and props.
- Pretend tea parties or picnics. This one never gets old. You might even remember having your own tea party growing up with all your favorite dolls.
- Building castles or forts out of blocks, pillows, or blankets. My living room often turns into a fort or more like a trap to fall into. LOL
- Creating imaginary worlds with dolls, action figures, or stuffed animals.
- Role-playing as doctors, firefighters, chefs, or other professionals. These are some of my favorite pretend play activities for toddlers and preschoolers. These are the real-life heroes that educate us, take care of us, keep us safe, and feed us.
